The European SUP (Single-use Plastics) directive, which could affect the development of the plastics industry in Italy, has been criticized by top Italian officials because it bans biodegradable and compostable plastics, where Italy is at the forefront.

Confindustria also criticized the Guidelines approved by the European Commission on the application of the SUP directive, which extends the ban to products containing less than 10% plastic.
